The trailers for The Adjustment Bureau suggested that Thompson ( Terence Stamp) is the primary Adjuster, when really he's only in the second half for four or five scenes.His father does eventually die, of lung cancer, but there's nothing he can do to prevent it. In fact, it's his sister, not his father, who's involved in a (non-fatal) car accident, and it happens much later in the movie. Furthermore, the trailer gives the impression that he erases their meeting by going back in time to prevent his father from dying in a car accident.The trailer for About Time suggests that Tim and Mary's entire relationship is eradicated from the timeline, but actually it's only their first meeting.The original teaser did flat-out state "No self-gratification" and "no kissing". ![]() A large part of the plot is that his friends are taking bets on whether he will make it which causes more problems when various people try to win the bet. What the commercials omit is that he was supposed to not have sex for Lent, or do anything remotely sexual, which probably would have made Matt more sympathetic to audiences. The commercials also made it look like it was a light romantic comedy or a chick flick where the guy meets a nice girl. The trailer and TV spots had the main character Matt state "No sex for Lent." Cue everybody who does not have sex at least once every forty days roll their eyes and lose interest. This sort of backfired for the movie 40 Days and 40 Nights.The film itself is much darker and more brutal than that. The trailer for 9½ Weeks promotes the film as being a lighthearted romance about two people having the best weeks of their lives falling in love.
